  • As Vanna White’s wheel spins nightly on television, so spins our cycle of consumption and waste -production. Literally millions of tires spin every day to bring us our stuff, and spin to take away our refuse. The faster this cycle spins, the more praise is heaped on us by the cultural high priests known as Economists, fueling the mythology that pursuing "more, bigger, better, quicker, faster, easier, shinier, newer" will lead us individually and collectively to ownership of some fulfilling Fortune of materialism. Does it really? Who knows where this wheel will ultimately lead? Made from a single tire once mounted on a truck until it was shredded and ripped clear of nearly all rubber, the two sides are held together by the now sharp and exposed wires formerly embedded in rubber tread. This wall-mounted piece can be hand-spun (see spinning views) to see where it comes to rest.
